Day 4, Next Stop: KYOTO!

So the next day I got up early to catch the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo all the way to Kyoto. These are incredibly fast trains. Where it would take 8-10 hours to drive from Tokyo to Kyoto, this bullet train got me to Kyoto in only 2 hours!

They weren’t kidding when they named these things “bullet trains.” O_O

Decided to take a few pictures from inside the train

Rice fields are very common in Japan, in fact many families even have their own mini rice fields in their own backyards.

And so I arrived at Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.

A lot of girls in Kyoto were wearing kimonos and yukatas (summer kimonos)

My first of many… many… MANY temples in Kyoto. At first I was really excited to see the temples in Kyoto, but in my opinion, once you see 5 temples in Kyoto, you’ve pretty much seen them all, lol. Regardless, sharing pictures of the temples I saw! :]

These next pictures are of the Kenninji Temple and the Yasui Konpiragu Shrine:

Eventually I somehow ended up finding …. you guessed it.. pig shrine! x_X

I became pretty beat after all that shrine sight-seeing, and I heard about these special parfaits that are exclusively made in Kyoto…

dsc00512_800×600.JPG

Oishi-saaaaaaaaaa…. (Looks Yummy!)

dsc00506_800×600.JPG

Couldn’t help it, I walked into the Cafe and ordered a Kyoto Parfait!

dsc00507_600×800.JPG

Two things were going through my mind when I saw this, the first was, “damn this looks so freaking good…”

dsc00509_600×800.JPG

The second thought was, “Damnit this better be worth the 1,000 yen i spent (~$10 USD)

And indeed it was! So good, the people in Kyoto really know how to fight the hot and humid weather.

The manager at the cafe thought I was a newspaper writer from the U.S., so he wanted to take a “satisfied customer” picture in front of one of the paintings in the cafe, so here it is.. lol.

With my Kyoto Parfait pit-stop over, it was time to hit the shrines and temples again. Below are pictures of the Yasaka-inja shrine:

Tug the rope to ring the bell and make a wish… and your wish just might come true!

I wonder what they wished for… :>

This is the view from just outside the shrine’s steps. Pretty crazy how one side is completely traditional and old-fashioned.. and then right on the other side you have asphault, cars, cement buildings, and electric wires running through the streets.

The legendary Skyline in the legendary city… what a beautiful scene… :’)

dsc00548_800×600.JPG

I was still full from my Kyoto Parfait but I promised myself I wouldn’t leave Kyoto until I treated myself to some Takoyaki (fried and baked octopus)

dsc00551_800×600.JPG

Typically in many Japanese shows and movies, you will always have a scene like this. Basically one of the characters will be sitting by the river gazing at the water thinking about something, whether it’s a loved one, about their future, or about committing suicide, lol.

dsc00560_800×600.JPG

Gazing in the flowing river, the young Japanese gentleman contemplates something…..

dsc00559_800×600.JPG

Hey that looks like fun, am i doing it right? LOL

dsc00564_800×600.JPG

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT KYOTO NIGHT LIFE IS CRAAAAZY! On a tuesday or wednesday night, people are out in the streets until the break of dawn like it’s a Friday or Saturday! ^___^

dsc00569_800×600.JPG

Even that shrine I visited earlier in the day looked quite lively!

So all that walking around Kyoto at night got me really hungry and I told myself I would be walking into the next restaurant I would see. And low and behold, that restaurant had a very happy family that wasn’t shy at all about talking to a Persian-American, lol. We ended up eating, drinking, talking, and laughing for hours about random things.

Genki na Kazoku-desu-ne? (Energetic family isn’t it?)

dsc00572_800×600.JPG

I swear the grandma insisted that I put my arm around her shoulder, lol.
